Business Segment/ Overview:
Sapphire Technologies designs, produces, and distributes energy recovery systems for hydrogen and natural gas industrial applications. Sapphire Technologies is housed on a seven-acre property that contains a cutting-edge test facility for our FreeSpin energy recovery technologies. Calnetix Technologies has awarded Sapphire Technologies all the intellectual property rights to its FreeSpin In-line Turboexpanders. This comprises permanent magnet machines, variable speed drives, magnetic bearings, and system-level controls. All patents were created domestically and are protected and managed in-house. Sapphire is submitting its own application-specific patents for FreeSpin's use in hydrogen and natural gas applications.

Product Description |
Freespin In-Line Turboexpander |
Sapphire Technologies’ FreeSpin In-line Turboexpander (FIT) recovers waste pressure energy in natural gas pressure letdown applications from the Well Pad through the midstream pipeline to Citygates or Direct connect end-users. Our system’s turboexpander-generator design efficiently converts a fluid’s kinetic energy into clean power, generating electricity with no carbon footprint. In addition to natural gas and hydrogen, FIT is compatible with compressed air, carbon dioxide, and other process gas applications. The turboexpander-generator assembly contains a high-performance, high-speed permanent magnet generator with an integrated radial in-flow expansion turbine and low loss active magnetic bearings. FIT’s “flow-through” design directs the expanded fluid directly over the generator, providing integrated cooling and eliminating the need for auxiliary cooling equipment. Sapphire’s proprietary power electronics unit combines a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) and a magnetic bearing controller into a single cabinet. The VSD consistently delivers clean electricity from the turboexpander-generator to the grid. It is available in 2 models including: FIT 125 Max Power Output: 125 kW VSD Output: 380 to 480 V, 50 to 60 Hz, 3-phase Rotor Speed: 25,000 rpm Maximum Operating Pressure: 110 bar-g, 1,600 psi-g Design Temperature: -29 °C to 93 °C Generator: Synchronous permanent magnet Bearing: Magnetic (Dry type) FIT 300 Max Power Output: 300 kW VSD Output: 380 to 480 V, 50 to 60 Hz, 3-phase Rotor Speed: 25,000 rpm Maximum Operating Pressure: 110 bar-g, 1,600 psi-g Design Temperature: -29 °C to 93 °C Generator: Synchronous permanent magnet Bearing: Magnetic (Dry type) |
